I used 240 colored pencils and Artresin into a fun vase. I hope you like the video.
So what’s been up with you? My life is pretty random. Some people are known for doing one thing. For some reason my brain can’t. I need to make things and learn new things.
I think I have artistic ADD!
Over the last year I have become engrossed in wood turning. While I love it, I have had the desire to make knives too. I have been watching YouTube and it looks so much fun!
So much fun I decided to buy some steel and with a grinder and a hell of a lot of hand sanding I finally made my own 8″ chef knives. I still plan on turning bowls but for now I plan on honing my knife making skills. Here are my first two knives. Thoughts?
Hope everyone is having a great summer!
Starting the first of the year my family and I will be participating in the 52 Hike Challenge. We already try to have a weekly adventure day but with the weather getting colder they will slowly stop as we bug in for the winter. I really like the idea of a challenge that will help push us through the cold parts of the season. I think it will be a good life lesson for the kids. Sometimes you have to push forward even when you don’t feel like it.
Without a hawk to hunt, I haven’t spent much time in the woods this fall except for our adventure days. Yesterday, I decided I had to get out on a trail somewhere, anywhere. It was like my mind needed to reconnect and recharge. I only hiked about 7 miles in total but I got to see a waterfall and hiked to the top of a rock formation called the King and Queen seat.
My favorite part of the day was meeting a couple from New Zealand and sitting with them on top of a rock and listening to their adventures and sharing some of their dark chocolate hot coco. After about 40 minutes we said farewell and they were off for their next adventure.
I wish I would of taken more pictures but oh well, there’s always next week.
For the longest time I only uploaded black and white images to my Instagram account. I have a deep love for monochromatic images that started when I rolled my film and developed my pictures in a small dark room.
One major reason I love to capture black and white is it allows me to just focus on the subject I am trying to convey. I also find it easier to focus on balance, contrast, textures and emotion.
I love color 🏳️🌈 as well. More and more I find myself keeping my images chromatic and at times even dipping my big toe in the ocean of HDR, for images that are rich with saturation. Maybe one day my gallery will be mostly color. 🙂 Until then, I hope you like some of my iPhoneography using black and white.
What do you do? I wonder if that’s an American phrase or if other cultures asked a similar question. To me it’s a question that hides another question. it’s not what do you do. it’s what defines you?
I tell people I’m an artist but I love to do more than art. I love to paint draw, make bowls on a lathe, play guitar and design graphics and website, make soap and fly falcons.
I don’t know if I have ADD but I can never just do one thing. Some of my friends just do one thing and they do it well. I wish I could be like them. I’d love to have one focus and hone it daily.
Maybe I’m a wandering generality. Maybe I’m just a random guy who has add. Whatever I am, I wanted a way to show other people how to do fun stuff like make soap or carve a bowl or whatever random thing that’s caught my attention. So I thought a blog would be a fun platform.
So welcome to my blog. I hope you like the random things I make.
Stay Random : )
